Excide Bastard Hymns
Excide // Bastard Hymns

Label // SharpTone Records

5 out of 5 high fives

Excide have created something special with their latest full length release, "Bastard Hymns". Released on SharpTone records (sister label to Nuclear Blast) the quintet finds it self in prominent company with labelmates and veteran hardcore hitters "Comeback Kid".

Album opening, from the start you greeted with a unique sound, Excide beautifully meld the past along with the current. Old heads will harken back to the stoic guitar parts reminiscent of Snapcase, anthemic sing alongs in the vein of Boy Sets Fire, and atmospheric guitar parts that would have found a nice home on a Jupiter era Cave In album. Even the album artwork could be taken as a nod to "Progression Through Unlearning".

However, if the previous statements lead you to believe that there is nothing new here you would be mistaken. Excide are able to take these familiar components and create something unique, something no other band is doing currently. This 5 piece from the Carolinas has managed somehow to create a sound that is just as much refreshing and new as it is nostalgic.
